Seminar Description
What Every Director Needs to Know --- The Regulator's View
Nonprofit charitable organizations operate solely for the benefit of the public and the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) is responsible for protecting the public’s interest in their activities. The AGO’s Nonprofit Organizations/Public Charities Division oversees nonprofit charitable organizations that range in size from our largest universities and health care systems to our small, neighborhood-based social service organizations and youth sport leagues. If you are a trustee, director, treasurer, clerk, president, chair or chief operating officer of a nonprofit charitable organization, you want to be sure that your organization’s practices meet the Massachusetts standards. The Division recognizes the hard work and dedication of nonprofit leaders and strives to provide the charitable community with educational opportunities on best practices. This seminar will give you the Regulator’s View. It will be conducted by the Division’s chief, David G. Spackman, who will share his office’s recommendations with you, particularly in key areas of stewardship. For directors, trustees or executives of public charities, this seminar is not to be missed.
David G. Spackman is the Chief of the Nonprofit Organizations/Public Charities Division of the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General. Prior to joining the office in May of 2007, Mr. Spackman had over thirty years experience representing public, for-profit, and non-profit clients in the health care field. He began his legal career in 1976 as the general counsel to the Department of Health and Hospitals in the City of Boston and entered private practice in 1984. During the course of his private sector career, he represented both for-profit and nonprofit health care providers with respect to governance and regulatory matters and gained extensive regional and national experience in representing healthcare clients involved in organizational change, including mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, joint ventures, physicians/hospital integration vehicles, conversion of public institutions to private status and sales of nonprofit assets to for-profit systems. The Nonprofit Organizations/Public Charities Division of the Attorney General’s Office is statutorily charged with protecting the public’s interest in the Commonwealth’s public charities.
This event is free and open to all nonprofit organizations and individuals interested in the nonprofit sector. Coffee shall be served. The Nonprofit Net Inc. is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization based in Lexington. Its mission is to unite nonprofits with their community and increase their capacity to deliver services.
