Seminar Description
Why we all throw away requests for donations 10 essentials for the next letter you send to prospective donors
Most nonprofits get at least 60% of their charitable donations in the last three months of the year, usually as the result of one of the increasing flood of appeals in people’s mailboxes. The competition is getting fierce. What’s written outside on the envelope is often boring, and probably so is what is written inside. Many letters are unopened, unread and tossed in the trash can. Don’t let that happen to you; there is more science than art in creating an effective fundraising letter. You will learn about the ten “take them right back to the office” ideas including examples of envelopes that “beg” to be opened, the importance of the “p.s.” at the end of the letter, how and why you have to ask, and much more.
The seminar will be conducted by Rick Schwartz, Principal at Rick Schwartz/StraightTalk. He has tackled nonprofit issues from every angle: as a professional journalist; chief of staff for the Massachusetts Senate Committee on Human Services; Director of Public Information, Mass. Council on the Arts and Humanities; Vice President for Communications, The Rhode Island Foundation and now an independent consultant solely to nonprofits around strategic thinking and communications. He is recipient of several honors including the prestigious The Wilmer Shields Rich Award (2009) given by the Council on Foundations to recognize and encourage excellence in communications.
