Seminar Description

What’s the deal with Social Media?

With over 250 million users at Facebook, and seemingly everyone talking about Twitter, it appears that social media is here to stay.  Can these tools possibly fit into the marketing or public relations strategy for your nonprofit organization or, as some say, are they a giant waste of time? The jury is still out. This seminar will enlighten you about the current social media landscape while familiarizing you with the leading social media vehicles and (took out "some of") the reasons for their popularity.  Specifically, you will learn about the features of the two fastest growing social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter, and join in the discussion on how each might be used to further the goals of your organization. The presentation, lasting little over an hour, will be followed by a discussion and time for networking.

The seminar will be conducted by Nisha Maxwell and Philipp Walzer, founders of the social media Consulting firm, Ideations (www.ideationsconsulting.org). We are fortunate to host these young entrepreneurs who are part of the generation that grew up with social media and want to share their first-hand knowledge of social media tools.  The pair met when they served as New Media interns in the Governor’s press office and have since then teamed up to build Ideations. Philipp graduated from Boston University's College of Communication and is currently an in-house blogger for Ideations Consulting where he analyzes the latest trends in social media marketing. Nisha hails from San Francisco and holds a degree from Emmanuel College. Her clients currently range from NGOs to corporate B2B. She is also the communication director for a local NGO, The Genesis Network.

This event is free and open to all nonprofit organizations and individuals interested in the nonprofit sector. Coffee shall be served. The Nonprofit Net Inc. is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization based in Lexington. Its mission is to unite nonprofits with their community and increase their capacity to deliver services.
