Seminar Description

Planning Fundraising Events in a Tough Economic Climate

It’s in the news everyday… foundations are not funding new nonprofits and have cut back on support as their endowments show poor returns. The same is true for previously generous donors. State governments are facing huge deficits, which, in turn, have produced funding cut backs to agencies and the constant threat of layoffs and reduced capacity. Donors, who maybe sympathetic, are facing the challenge of making ends meet and/or saving for the “rainy day” they hope will never happen.

Given such a gloomy scenario, what are nonprofits to do about fundraising events that are often the very foundation of their budgets?

There are no easy answers and certainly none that will assure success, but together we will discuss best practices in this challenging economy. Led by Phyllis Lasky, this workshop will address the nuts and bolts issues that complicate the decision-making process and identify some promising new ideas.  Bring your questions and creative ideas, so we can share our wealth of experiences on this often confusing and difficult topic. You’ll leave the session with a clearer understanding of how to approach your next event.

Phyllis Lasky has over 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She has held positions as a director of development and communications and executive director in several agencies. In addition, Ms Lasky has served on boards of directors, been an active policy advocate, and an adjunct lecturer. An Arlington resident, she currently serves on the Board of Directors of Women in Development in Boston and is the past president of the Vasculitis Foundation, an international health-related nonprofit with headquarters in Kansas City, MO. Nine years ago, she founded Phyllis Lasky Consulting, which provides interim and project management solutions for nonprofits

Because of workshop design the total participants are limited to 50 and registrations will be accepted on first-come-first-serve basis. Coffee shall be served. The Nonprofit Net Inc. is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization based in Lexington. Its mission is to unite nonprofits with their community and increase their capacity to deliver services.
