The Nonprofit Net announces a seminar on Wednesday, November 19, from 10.00 AM to 12.00 PM at the Meeting Room in Cary Library, 1874 Massachusetts Ave. Lexington, MA. MAP
Seminar description The New Form 990: What Every Board Member of a Public Charity Should Know Those public charities and other tax-exempt organizations that file a Form 990 each year must complete an overhauled Form 990 for the 2008 tax year. This first significant revision since 1979 makes huge changes in the disclosure requirements of governance and operations for nonprofit organizations. Whether you are a board member or a key employee, it is imperative that you know some of these critical changes. No longer is the Form 990 merely a financial reporting vehicle. Now it is also a window into management policies and program performances, readily available on the Internet for donors, journalists, public officials and watchdog groups to see. The impact of this new form is already quite significant. Organizations are re-examining not only the way they govern themselves, but also how they tell their stories to the public. This seminar will cover the important changes brought by the new form with respect to governance, compensation and disclosure. You will learn how best to prepare for the disclosures and capitalize on the public relations opportunities that the new form presents. The seminar will be conducted by Julia Satti Cosentino, a partner in the Trusts and Estates Department of the law firm of Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP and chair of the Nutter Charitable Advisors practice group. Julia focuses on counseling both public charities and private foundations on organizational structure and operation, including fundraising, grant making, tax compliance and reporting, and strategic planning. She also advises philanthropists on all aspects of charitable giving. Julia is a frequent speaker on nonprofit matters, including at seminars sponsored by the Federal Tax Institute of New England, the Northeast Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel, the Boston Philanthropic Advisors Roundtable and Nonprofit Net. This event is free and open to all nonprofit organizations and individuals interested in the nonprofit sector. Coffee shall be served. The Nonprofit Net Inc. is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization based in Lexington. Its mission is to unite nonprofits with their community and increase their capacity to deliver services.
